The BC Coroner's Service says it will hold an inquest into the death of Angus Mitchell, who was killed in a shootout with police in Maple Ridge last month.

The shooting occurred after the RCMP launched a manhunt for Mitchell, who was suspected in a double murder at a restaurant in Burnaby and the attempted murder of his former landlord.

After his death, police revealed Mitchell had a hit list of several people, institutions and businesses in the Metro Vancouver area.

The list included the name of the woman who was killed in the Burnaby restaurant, as well as schools in Burnaby and Surrey, and a group home in Surrey.

Inquests are conducted automatically when a person is killed by a police officer.

The timing of the Mitchell inquest will depend on an external investigation of his shooting being conducted by the Vancouver Police.
