Lindsay Macri was sleeping soundly when she heard the screams. She looked outside and saw a man lying on the ground. She reached for her phone and when she was on with 911 said, “I heard him yell 'I’ve been stabbed.'”

Just after 3 a.m., Surrey RCMP came across a man with stab wounds on 152 Street. Police were later seen in the parking lot of the Semiamhoo Shopping Centre in that area, near the edge of White Rock, covering a body with a tarp.

“I looked out the window and saw two guys running away,” Macri told CTV News.

Police said a man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing that killed one person near a South Surrey shopping centre Friday morning.

That man was arrested at a nearby home, but officers have yet to determine what connection, if any, he has with that house. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team credited the work of Surrey RCMP and the police dog services for tracking the address.

IHIT is investigating and believes this was not a random act.

“We are still trying to pinpoint what exactly happened,” said Sgt. Frank Jang. “What the nature of the fight was.”

Detectives are still trying to identify the victim.

Surrounding roads were closed Friday morning and posts to Twitter from TransLink say its 391, 531 and 394 buses in White Rock Centre are detouring as a result of the incident near 152 Street and 16 Avenue.

Police were also seen at a second location, just a couple of blocks away. A house was taped off on 19A Avenue, but it is unknown if this was the house where the person was arrested or if the house was connected to the stabbing in any way.

Anyone with information is asked to call the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-4448 or Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous.
