Home-alone teen sexually assaulted by stranger
A teen girl at home alone over the lunch hour Thursday was sexually assaulted by a stranger posing as a contractor, according to North Vancouver Mounties.
The victim’s parents were away from the family home in the 4000-block of Capilano Road at around 12:30 p.m. when a man knocked on the front door, according to an RCMP press release. He told her that her parents had hired him to do some contract work, and she agreed to let him in.
Once inside, the man sexually assaulted her and fled. The girl is said to be traumatized.
Police are now warning North Shore residents to be cautious with strangers.
“We want to warn the public but we also want to encourage anyone with any information that may assist us in locating the suspect to call the North Vancouver detachment,” RCMP Cpl. Richard De Jong said in a written statement.
“Police are advising all North Vancouver citizens to be extra vigilant when allowing strangers onto their property or into their residence, for whatever reason.”
Investigators say the victim and her family do not know the suspect, and a description of the man has yet to be released.
Anyone with information about the assault is asked to call North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
