A B.C. man is under investigation in the U.S. after border agents discovered 300 lbs of marijuana hidden inside a load of woodchips at the Laurier border crossing last week.

Matthew Tutt, a 31-year-old North Vancouver truck driver, was arrested on Friday after his load was selected for inspection by Customs and Border Protection officers.

The officers discovered five crates full of marijuana concealed beneath the load of wood chips.

According to a release from the U.S. customs agency, the marijuana is "suspected to be ‘BC Bud,' a highly potent form of marijuana," that can sell for between $3,500 and $6,000 per pound south of the border.

Tutt has made a first appearance in court and is now in the custody of U.S. Homeland Security.
