Dozens of elderly residents at an Okanagan trailer park have been ordered to move out – but they won't be leaving quietly.

Oliver, B.C., couple Elizabeth and Wilford Hidlebaugh's are in their 90s. Their lakeside unit at the Tradewinds Mobile Home Park is their little piece of heaven, but it hasn't been the same since they received their eviction notices last week.

They have 12 months to relocate, but Elizabeth says nowhere they go will compare to their current home.

"Every morning I sit and watch what's going on on the lake," she said. "Surely I'll never get a place like this."

All of the residents who have been evicted live near the lake, and can only speculate about what will become of the land once they leave.

What Wilford Hidlebaugh does know is that he most likely won't see a penny for his home.

"You can't move it. Where would you move it to?" he said. "Who would take a 35-year-old house?"

Landlord William Kirsch says with the park's low rental rates, he has no choice but to redevelop the property.

Depending on what becomes of the park, resident Carolyn Madge says the eviction may be invalid – because Kirsch has not yet applied to rezone the land for any other use.

It's a potential flaw in the paperwork that gives Tradewinds residents just a small bit of hope.

"I'm on my way to Penticton right now to meet with a lawyer," Madge said.
