Mounties in Richmond, B.C., say thieves in the city are sinking to a new low.
Const. Tammy-Lyn Walker says someone has broken into several vehicles specifically to steal disabled parking passes.
Police suspect the crook intends to sell the passes on the street.
Walker says Mounties have stepped up enforcement in a busy part of the city where the thefts occurred.
Drivers issued with the special parking pass also have an ID card that must be produced on request, and Walker says it's an offence to use the pass in a designated zone when a disabled person is not in the car.
The blue pass hangs from the rear view mirror and is distributed to people who have trouble walking long distances or who use a wheelchair and must have extra-wide parking spaces in order to get in an out of their vehicles.
