Sentencing is expected today for a 52-year-old B.C. man convicted of burning his elderly mother to death.

Clearwater resident Parker Matthias is expected to appear in B.C. Supreme Court in Kamloops this morning.

Matthias was originally charged with second degree murder but was convicted of manslaughter in December 2009, following a trial before a judge.

Matthias admitted to pouring gasoline on his mother's dog as the pet sat on Kathleen Jennings' lap in August 2008, but he said he was only trying to scare his 79-year-old mother when he sparked a lighter as she taunted him.
