The Vancouver Police Department has recommended charges against another 20 suspects in the Stanley Cup riot, and investigators promise more counts are "just around the corner."

The Integrated Riot Investigation Team announced the second wave of charge recommendations Monday, more than six months after the June 15 melee that caused an estimated $5 million in damage to the city's downtown core.

The latest group of suspects face a combined 52 counts including assault causing bodily harm, breaking and entering, assaulting a police officer and participating in a riot.

Their names will not be revealed unless Crown approves the charges.

Police have now recommended a total of 215 counts against 80 suspects, and Insp. Les Yeo said the IRIT team is "hard at work" preparing a third wave.

"We're not backing off," Yeo said in a statement. "We are continuing our goal to hold as many rioters as possible accountable for their actions… Why should the victims settle for anything less?"

The first wave of recommended charges was announced Oct. 31 against 50 men and 10 women. Of those, charges have so far been approved against 27.

Crown prosecutors are still reviewing the recommendations against the remaining suspects.

Police have said that as many as 700 people could ultimately face charges, and that the investigation could take up to two years to complete.
