As of 9 a.m., police were still on scene at a home in the area. Blood and shell casings could be seen on the driveway.

Across the street, in an adjacent alleyway, police were examining a car that smashed through a fence.

The vehicle appeared to have bullet holes in its back window.

Police believe the shooter fled the scene in a vehicle but have not released a description of either the vehicle or the suspect.

A neighbour who recently moved to the community said he doesn't know anyone who lives at the home at the centre of the investigation.

"You don't normally expect to have shooting happening around the deep suburbs," said Adam Rosa. "It's expected to be quieter.

"If we're starting to get shell casings right outside the house, that's a little disconcerting."
