Five months after six men were killed in a horrific multiple homicide in a Surrey apartment, police believe they have a break in the case.

Homicide investigators say they have identified a "person of interest" who they say might have information that will lead them to the people who committed the murders of six people last October, including two people who police said were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

And that person need not fear prosecution, the RCMP said -- he will have the protection of officers because of the vital information he has.

Police released a sketch of the man Wednesday at a news conference.

The man is Asian, in his 20s, about 5'9", and has long hair. Police also said they're looking for a black BMW 745Li that they believe is linked to the killers.

Six people were killed on the 15th floor of the Balmoral Tower in Whalley on October 19, 2007 in a scene police described as "dramatic" and "graphic."

At the time, police said that four victims, all residents of Surrey, were involved in criminal activity, but weren't part of a gang themselves. Police said Edward Narong, 22, Corey Lal, 21, Michael Lal, 26, and Ryan Bartolomeo, 19, ay have been targeted by a gang.

And two other victims, Ed Schellenberg, 55, and Chris Mohan, 22, were innocent victims "caught in the crossfire," said Wayne Rideout, who leads the RCMP's homicide investigations unit, at the time.
