RCMP are investigating an assault outside a Maple Ridge bar last month that has left a father-of-three permanently brain damaged.

The incident happened around 2 a.m. on June 13 at the Wolf Bar on Lougheed Highway, but paramedics released the victim at the scene because his injuries did not appear to be serious.

Police say the man's condition has worsened to the point that the 44-year-old man is now unable to walk and talk.

"The severity of his injuries did not show up until a couple of days later when he was admitted to Royal Columbian Hospital," said Superintendent Dave Walsh.

The man, who worked to support his family, is now left with permanent brain damage.

"I'm told he will survive, but is now unable to carry on with his normal day to day living, and will need care for the rest of his life," said Walsh.

The force is appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the fight to come forward and speak to RCMP.
