An autopsy on the body discovered in a North Vancouver park last weekend has been completed, revealing the gender of the deceased.

The body was discovered by a couple walking their dog in Waterfront Park on Saturday, but trauma to the body was so extensive investigators were unable to determine the victim's gender.

"It was not apparent, wasn't obvious to us just by looking at the deceased," said Cpl. Dale Carr.

On Thursday, Carr said am autopsy suggests the victim was an adult male.

The identity of the victim is still unknown, however, as is the cause of death.

"What we're hoping is in the coming days we'll be able to conclusively identify who he is," Carr said. "There are a number of leads at this point."

Police believe the death is an isolated incident, and that the public is not at risk.
