A unique-looking 26-storey high-rise is slated to be built smack between two heritage buildings on Vancouver’s waterfront, provided it gets the green light from the city.
A development permit application for the “Waterfront Tower” project, next to Waterfront Station, has to be reviewed by the City of Vancouver before it breaks ground.

The tower would be located at 555 West Cordova Street. The site is currently a parking lot beside the transit hub, which just celebrated its centennial, and a former warehouse that was built in 1905.
Drawings of the 127-metre tall building show the architects’ vision for an origami-like tower that will also house retail facilities, and a public plaza shared by Waterfront Station.
The tower would offer 22 floors of office space, and a total of 33,000-square-feet of rentable space.
The developer, Cadillac Fairview, boasts “uninterrupted views of the water and mountains from every floor.”
The project is designed by Chicago architects Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, the firm planning Saudi Arabia’s Kingdom Tower – set to be the world’s tallest upon completion.
The city is not holding any public consultations but is accepting written comments by mail and email before January 22. The board makes its decision about green-lighting the project on March 9.
