The world's largest commercial airplane landed in Metro Vancouver yesterday, making its first non-stop trip between the west coast and the U.K.

British Airways' A380 flight landed at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) on Sunday evening, and will be flying daily between Richmond and London Heathrow through the summer.

YVR will be the only airport in western Canada with regular service from the airbus.

The plane can accommodate 469 passengers, seated in four cabins across two decks. The plane is 73 metres long, with a wingspan of 80 metres.

Previously, British Airways was flying two Boeing 747s between the cities each day, but will now be able to fit all passengers on one plane.

The A380 will depart YVR at 8:45 p.m. every day, and arrive at Heathrow at 2 p.m. local time the next day. Return flights will leave Heathrow at 5:15 p.m. and arrive at YVR at 6:40 p.m.

The flight takes just over nine hours from takeoff to landing. Tickets are available at www.ba.com.
