A portion of the Stanley Park seawall will be closed this weekend following a sandstone slide.

The Vancouver Park Board says that the outside layer of sandstone near Siwash Rock fell on the seawall bike lane Thursday afternoon.

A geological consultant determined rock scaling needs to be done in the area, but it won’t happen until Monday.

The bike path between Siwash Rock and the Lions Gate Bridge will be closed over the weekend, but the closure will not affect pedestrians.

The entire section will be closed on Monday from 7 a.m. onwards while the rock scaling is completed, and is set to re-open Tuesday morning.
