Mounties are investigating whether speed is a factor in a crash that put two adults and a child in hospital Sunday night in Surrey.

A grey Mazda slammed into a hydro pole on King George Boulevard near 64th Avenue around 7:45 p.m., nearly shearing the vehicle in half.

It took firefighters using the Jaws of Life a half-hour to free the people trapped inside, all of whom were rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

Their names and exact ages haven’t been released.

The RCMP is still investigating the cause of the crash, but said early indications suggest speed could be a factor.
