Mounties have arrested two suspects who allegedly rammed a police cruiser with a stolen car then led officers on a long chase across Metro Vancouver early Thursday morning.

Sgt. Duane Honeyman said the incident started while Mounties were responding to a reported break-and-enter in Surrey around 1 a.m.

“As a police dog unit was heading to the scene, a Honda Civic vehicle came toward them head-on and swerved into their path,” Honeyman said.

The RCMP said the suspect vehicle rammed the cruiser then took off onto Highway 1, where Mounties chased it all the way to West Vancouver.

Footage taken from the top of the Cassiar Tunnel in East Vancouvers shows four RCMP vehicles pursuing the silver Civic.

In West Vancouver, police said they were finally able to stop the vehicle – which they believe was stolen from Coquitlam – using a spike belt.

“It got off at Exit 4, where the vehicle lost control and struck a concrete barricade,” Honeyman said.

The RCMP said it’s fortunate no one was hurt in the incident.

Two suspects were arrested shortly after the crash, and both have since been charged.

Maple Ridge resident Corey Brandon William Bourjeois, 25, is charged with a half-dozen counts, including dangerous driving, fleeing from police, possession of stolen property and possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, while 23-year-old Coquitlam resident Chantel Ann-Marie couture is charged with taking a vehicle without the consent of the owner.

Both suspects are known to police.
