The discovery of a suspected meth lab in Vancouver’s West End neighbourhood Wednesday caused a “ribbitting” scene, but turned out to be a false alarm.
Sgt. Richard Chalke said a Hazmat team, Emergency Response Team, and Explosive Disposal Unit were all dispatched to an apartment on Haro and Bidwell streets, but the apparent drug lab turned out to be nothing more than a batch of frog eggs.
“Upon speaking to the actual resident… we decided it wasn’t anything suspicious,” Chalke said. “He’s told us that it’s actually frog eggs that he was going to raise from the eggs up into little frogs and release them into the wilderness because he’s an animal lover.”
Police were called after bailiffs executing an eviction order at the apartment found something that looked like a meth lab in one of the closets.
Authorities evacuated an entire floor of the building as a precaution before they were able to determine no crime was “Kermit”-ted.
