1. Worrisome stats: B.C. cancer cases are expected to rise 57 per cent by 2030. The BC Cancer Agency say the numbers aren’t unexpected and have begun working to adapt to the added pressures.

2. Suspected street race: Four people are in hospital after a crash that police say appears to have happened during a street race in Surrey. Mounties say one vehicle was wedged under a semi-truck while a second vehicle drove off.

3. No gender: A group of activists is fighting to have genders removed from birth certificates and has taken their case to the B.C. Human Rights Tribunal. The Trans Alliance Society, which is one of nine complainants, say gender markets aren’t a fixed characteristic.

4. Permanent home: A false killer whale that was rescued in Tofino last summer will be staying at the Aquarium. The Department of Fisheries and Oceans says the mammal is too young to have developed survival skills.

5. So dull: The Economist isn’t a fan of Vancouver. While the city may have ocean access and pretty good weather year-round, it’s boring. B.C.’s Premier had a sassy response to Economist’s claim.
