The two young women killed in a horrific crash on B.C.’s Sea-to-Sky Highway this weekend were both 19-year-old University of British Columbia students.

Two young women died and two others were hurt after the Jeep Cherokee they were in lost control around a corner just north of Lions Bay, striking a truck head-on.

Mounties confirm all four women involved in Saturday’s accident were studying at the Point Grey campus at UBC.

The BC Coroners Service has identified the girls as Olivia Sonja Robertson and Valentine Leborgne.

Robertson, who was driving the Jeep, is originally from Collingwood, Ontario – about 150 kilometres from Toronto --  while Leborgne is a Los Altos, California native.

The other two passengers were seriously injured. The four girls were on their way to Whistler.

The highway was closed in both directions for most of the day as police investigated, causing lengthy delays because of traffic congestion and no available detours.

Temperatures hovered around the freezing mark at the time of the accident but the cause of the crash has not been determined. The driver of the truck walked away with only minor injuries.

The collision happened on a section of highway that is undivided and has only one lane on each side.
