A woman is recovering in hospital after being shot outside her East Vancouver home Friday morning in what police say is likely a targeted shooting.

It happened outside the lower level of a two-storey residence in the 3000-block of E. 29th Avenue.

Police were called to the home after receiving multiple calls of shots fired around 5:30 a.m. to find the 49-year-old suffering multiple gunshot wounds.

"She was on the patio in the rear of the residence and shot several times," Cst. Jana McGuinness of the Vancouver Police said.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Vancouver General Hospital for treatment, and is now in stable condition.

Investigators have put up yellow tape in several areas in the alleyway behind the home.

Police have no suspects in custody and are currently interviewing people in the area and several people who were inside the home at the time of the shooting.

"We're currently trying to establish the connection between the woman and the home," McGuinness said.

"It's going to take a little bit more time before we know what motivated this shooting."

There have been more than 50 targeted shootings in B.C.'s Lower Mainland since mid-January, with more than a dozen fatal.
