Woman killed in Vancouver's Joyce-Collingwood neighbourhood, suspect in custody
A woman is dead and a 46-year-old suspect is in custody after an incident in Vancouver's Joyce-Collingwood neighbourhood overnight.
The Vancouver Police Department shared few details in a statement Saturday morning, saying only that officers were called to a home near Rupert Street and Euclid Avenue around midnight.
When they arrived, they found a woman in her 20s deceased. A second victim, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries, police said.
A home in the 4900 block of Rupert Street remained behind police tape late Saturday morning, and a neighbour who did not want to speak on camera or be identified told CTV News the residents are renters who moved in earlier this year.
A "for sale" sign advertising the home as a "residential development site" can be seen outside. The neighbour said the property has been on the market for years.
While the statement did not specify the suspect's gender, VPD spokesperson Sgt. Steve Addison confirmed to CTV News in an email that the suspect is a man.
Addison said police are not prepared to release additional information about the manner in which the victims were harmed, adding that the investigation is ongoing.
"There is no current risk to the public," the VPD statement reads.
"Vancouver police homicide and forensics investigators will be working in the area throughout the day to collect evidence," police said. "Anyone with information is asked to contact the VPD Homicide Unit at 604-717-2500."
