Six wealthy families donated a total of $1 million to enable the District of West Vancouver to become a Venue City for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

These privately raised funds will support staging the Games and will also fund snowboard and freestyle World Cup events scheduled for Cypress Mountain in 2009.

The mountain, located in West Vancouver, is the official freestyle skiing and snowboard venue for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

As a Venue City, VANOC says West Vancouver will receive many benefits, including the use of the 2010 Vancouver 2010 Venue City Logo.

In a press released VANOC did not reveal the names of the donor families. It said only that "community leaders have embraced the spirit of the 2010 Winter Games and come forward with $1 million."
