A bride-to-be who claims she was viciously attacked by staff at a downtown Vancouver bar this weekend says the incident will leave her with permanent scars, but police say there may be more to the story.
Mission resident Alysha Thompson, 29, was celebrating her bachelorette party with her closest girlfriends at Bar None on Saturday night when she said she was brutally assaulted by a waitress in the club.
In a Facebook post, Thompson – who is due to walk down the aisle in three weeks – said she hadn’t made eye contact with the woman or spoke to her.
“She grabbed me from behind and threw me across a table and brutally attacked me, leaving me with a concussion, cuts and bruises all over my body,” Thompson said, adding that she was unceremoniously dragged out of the nightclub by bouncers.
The photos, posted to Facebook, show cuts to her arm and foot, as well as a large cut stitched up on her forehead.
Vancouver police confirmed to CTV News they responded to the club around 11:45 p.m. that night and are investigating the incident as a fight.
Sgt. Randy Fincham said it appears that the woman was involved in an altercation inside the bar with two different groups of people.
“Police are working to identify all the people involved in the fight and will be reviewing video to establish what exactly went on inside the club,” he said in a statement issued to media.
Fincham said investigators have discovered there was another group of people involved other than the victim and bar staff.
“It is important that these people come forward and tell their side of the story,” he said.
The bar released a statement on its Facebook page Monday saying it takes “the safety of our patrons and employees seriously.”
“The matter from last night is being reviewed by the Vancouver Police Department,” the message said.
