The victim of a fatal stabbing in East Vancouver a week ago has been identified as 57-year-old Ronald William March from Burnaby.

William’s body was found with multiple stab wounds in the lane behind an east Vancouver senior’s complex on the 3400-block of Renfrew Street. A 911 caller notified the police after they heard screams from the alley.

“It took us a while to release his name because next of kin lived out of the country,” said Const. Lindsey Houghton.

Investigators said the attack, which is the sixth homicide of 2012, appears targeted.

No charges have been laid in the homicide but police have questioned Lance Wraye Standberg, a 47-year-old Burnaby man they described as a person of interest in connection with the murder.

Standberg was arrested Thursday morning on an outstanding assault charge after allegedly crashing into a police car hours after the stabbing. He has since also been charged with flight from a police officer and dangerous operation of a vehicle.

Houghton said it is unknown what relation the suspect and victim had to the address. The investigation is ongoing and police are not saying whether there are other suspects.
