UBC students and staff will see an increased police presence on campus for the next several days following a threat and lockdown on Wednesday.

The Biological Sciences Building was under lockdown after an email threat was sent mid-afternoon. It was a specific threat against someone connected to the building.

The writer said he intended to do harm to himself and others, and stated a two-hour deadline.

Police say nothing suspicious was found in the building and no one was hurt in the incident.

The building was cleared after approximately six hours but RCMP continue to investigate.

Scott Macrae, executive director of UBC public affairs, says the university took steps to respond after receiving the threat.

An email message was sent out to UBC staff at approximately 1:45 p.m., telling staff and students to stay put.

"Police are on scene at Biological Building. They are requesting a lockdown," it read. "Stay in your rooms. Do not open the door for anyone except for persons who use the word ZULU. Please keep this word confidential."

UBC announced in September it would implement an emergency text message service, but the text service was not used during the emergency on Wednesday.
