As Lower Mainland police forces try to get a handle on a string of deadly shootings, Canadian Border Services officers say they have helped take one dangerous weapon off the street.

A U.S. man faces numerous charges after officers at the Douglas border crossing south of Vancouver seized a loaded 9mm Sig Sauer semi-automatic pistol, and two boxes of ammunition.

The gun was found last Thursday in the central console of an SUV.

Gerald Eugene Burke appears in provincial court in Surrey tomorrow to face charges that include smuggling and possession of a loaded, prohibited firearm.
