Two Transit Police officers charged with assaulting and pepper-spraying a man outside Granville SkyTrain Station last year are facing new allegations that they fabricated evidence.

Vancouver police confirmed Wednesday that new counts of breach of trust, public mischief and evidence fabrication have been approved against Constables Bruce Shipley and Alfred Wong.

The officers allegedly assaulted a man on a staircase leading onto Seymour Street on Feb. 9, 2012, after overhearing that someone matching his description was in distress.

The alleged assault, the severity of which has not been confirmed by police, occurred after the man tried to walk away.

Vancouver police investigators were called to independently probe the confrontation and found sufficient evidence to recommend criminal charges.

Authorities are not commenting further on the matter, which is currently before the courts.
