A teenage girl has died after she jumped from a moving car during a fight with her mother Tuesday night in West Vancouver, B.C.

West Vancouver Police told CTV News that at about 10:30 p.m. the daughter opened the door of the black GMC Yukon and jumped from the vehicle as it drove eastbound on Keith Road.

She hit the pavement. It's not clear how fast the car was going, though the speed limit on the leafy, residential street is 50 km per hour.

The mother pulled over to the side of the road and shocked neighbours called 911, police said.

The ambulance arrived to take the teen to Lions Gate Hospital. The mother went with her daughter to the hospital as well.

West Vancouver Police Sgt. Paul Skelton said the girl could not be saved.

He says investigators are trying to piece together what happened in the vehicle just before the girl leaped.

Police tape blocked the area overnight as police examined skid marks on the road and canvassed for witnesses to the incident.

Police didn't say what the fight was about. Investigators are urging any witnesses to come forward.
