Burnaby RCMP have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with a break-in and sexual assault that occurred late last year.

Kitriel Javier Aquino has been charged with sex assault with a weapon, break and enter with intent and wearing a disguise with intent.

A Burnaby woman woke to find a man in her bedroom on Nov. 15, RCMP said. The man allegedly threatened that he had a weapon and then sexually assaulted her.

“Although the victim did not appear to know the accused, the investigation would indicate that this was a targeted incident,” said Cpl. Steve Hoivik.

Aquino was arrested Jan. 3. and is currently being held in custody.

Burnaby RCMP reminded the public to ensure the security of their homes by locking doors and windows, and using motion-activated lights and home alarms.
