The suspect in a murder in Surrey, B.C., last week, has now been charged with the killing and faces several firearms charges for allegedly shooting at police.

Lester Ovidio Buezo Oseguera, 29, now faces one count of second-degree murder and additional firearms charges in connection with the homicide Jose Hector Luna. He was charged with one count of possession of a loaded restricted firearm last week.

Oseguera was arrested on Aug. 30, after the body of 28-year-old Luna was found in a Whalley house.

After receiving a complaint from a woman who heard shots fired on Monday night, police arrived at the house and were confronted by an armed man. The suspect fired a single gunshot and fled the scene but was tracked down by a police dog and arrested.

Oseguera remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Surrey Provincial Court on Sept. 9.
