Suspect charged in alleged assault at B.C. golf course

Two months after a golfer allegedly attacked fellow players with a club at a B.C. golf course, a suspect has been charged.

One count of assault with a weapon was approved against Hyun Bin Eun this week, the B.C. Prosecution Service confirmed Thursday.

The alleged incident happened on the afternoon of Oct. 12 at a course in North Burnaby. At the time, the RCMP said officers responded to a report that an "intoxicated 42-year-old" had struck three golfers with a club following a verbal altercation.

Video that emerged on social media showed several golfers standing near a teeing area, and one man yelling, "You hit f***ing towards me?" at another player.

The camera then pans away before a “thwack” sound is heard.

Another golfer then yells, "What the f*** is wrong with you?" and a man is seen kneeling on the ground rubbing his head.

Burnaby RCMP said a suspect was located at the scene, taken into custody, and released on a promise to appear in court.

The victims all sustained minor injuries, authorities said at the time.

The incident marked the second physical altercation to break out at a Burnaby golf since the spring, following a brawl that was caught on camera in late June. 

Eun made a brief appearance at Vancouver provincial court Thursday afternoon and was released with conditions.

He is scheduled to be back in court on Jan. 9.
