A 49-year-old Surrey man was Tasered and taken into custody after a domestic dispute turned violent Wednesday night.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., Surrey RCMP responded to a domestic dispute call in the 9400-block of 133A Street.

Police say a woman at the home told 911 that her common-law husband slashed the tires of her vehicle and was threatening to bring out his rifle.

When RCMP arrived they found the husband approaching the woman and her four children on the driveway with a .22 caliber rifle.

Police say they used a Taser on the man after he ignored repeated demands to put down his rifle and began pointing the gun in their direction.

The man was immediately arrested and taken into custody.

The woman and her children were unharmed. Police seized the rifle and another rifle from inside the residence.

The man is facing charges of pointing a firearm, careless use of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon dangerous to public safety and mischief assault.

His first court appearance is scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
