Mounties briefly locked down a Surrey elementary school Wednesday morning after a woman was attacked with a knife outside.
Officers were called to Royal Heights Elementary around 8:30 a.m. with reports of a domestic assault.
Cpl. Bert Paquet said a 34-year-old suspect was arrested near the scene without incident, and the students were never threatened or put at risk.
“For obvious reasons, the school was in lock-down for a few minutes, until we could confirm the safety of students and that the suspect was in custody,” Paquet said.
Officers also recovered a small knife believed to have been used in the attack.
The victim suffered only minor injuries, according to police.
The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been laid. Any potential witnesses to the assault are asked to call the Surrey RCMP detachment at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 if they wish to remain anonymous.
