The Vancouver Park Board has voted in favour of installing a temporary zipline in Queen Elizabeth Park.
The attraction will be installed to celebrate the park’s 75th anniversary.
Chair John Coupar said the zipline would likely be in operation likely from May to September and cost $15 to $20 per ride.
The line will launch from the west side of the Bloedel Conservatory, travelling over the adjacent quarry garden and landing 190 metres away. The line will be 152 metres above sea level and take in stunning views of downtown Vancouver and the North Shore.
The park board has agreed to receive revenue on a sliding scale: no percentage if revenue is less than $75,000, 10-per-cent return for revenues between $75,001 and $250,000, 35-per-cent if it’s between $250,001 and $400,000 and 40-per-cent if revenues exceed $400,001.
A proposal for the attraction maintains it will generate less than 50 decibels of noise, which would mean it wouldn’t be heard more than six meters away.
