Update: Zhou was returned to the Vancouver Police Department Friday night. He was spotted at Broadway and Heather Street then Cambie Street and 3rd Avenue before being turned in anonymously.

An older-model pickup truck stolen from Vancouver’s Chinatown Thursday night has been located, but the giant dog that was inside is missing.

Kristyn Christiansen said he accidentally left the keys in the ignition when he stopped to make a quick stop at the Scotiabank on Keefer Street around 6:20 p.m. and someone quickly jumped into the pickup and drove away.

“I literally had just crossed the street and it was gone,” he told CTV News.

Zhou, a three-year-old 160-pound St. Bernard that always accompanies his owner to work, was taken, and Christiansen is now making a desperate plea to have his dog returned.

“I’ve had him since he was a pup,” he said.

The truck was found around 11 p.m. parallel parked at West 14th Avenue and Pine Street, totally out of gas. The vehicle’s stereo was removed and tools and a computer were taken.

Christiansen isn’t sure whether the car thief took the dog with him, or let the dog out somewhere in Kitsilano or somewhere else in the city.
