Police are searching for a suspect in a stabbing outside a Whistler nightclub early Wednesday morning.

The stabbing followed a fight that broke out between two groups at Maxx Fish nightclub at closing time around 2 a.m.

“It started outside Maxx Fish and ended up down on Main Street,” said Sgt. Rob Knapton of the Whistler RCMP.

The suspect fled the scene after allegedly stabbing the victim in his stomach. He is described as a stocky male in his mid-20s, 5-8 tall with short blonde hair and tattoos on both shoulders. Police said he was with three other people.

The victim, from Abbotsford, was taken to Whistler Medical Clinic for treatment. He has since been released.

Knapton said this is one of the busiest weeks in Whistler over the summer, due to the Crankworx mountain bike festival.

“We’ve got additional officers on shift every night this week because of the increased amount of people here and the attention the festival draws,” said Knapton.

It is unknown if either the suspect or victim were attending the festival.
