When celebrities visit Vancouver, there are a few landmarks they usually hit, including our world-famous seawall and scenic Stanley Park.
But superstar singer Adele decided to make a purr-fectly different kind of stop ahead of her sold-out shows at Rogers Arena this week, at the popular cat café in International Village Mall.
The chanteuse strolled into Catfé on Tuesday evening and simply asked to see the cats, said barista Leona Morrison.
“She acted just like any other customer,” Morrison told CTV News. “We were all just stunned, frankly.”
Morrison said the café was fully booked with a children’s birthday party when Adele stopped by, but staff made room for the singer to get some one-on-one time with one of their furry residents.
The birthday party was more than happy to oblige as well.
“The mom told me afterwards it’s a party no one will forget,” Morrison said.
And it wasn’t just staff and patrons who were smitten. Catfé said Adele got “starstruck” petting their rescue cat Larry and became an instant fan.
“He’s very open to pats and he seemed to be really into it,” Morrison said. “He’s a bit of a ladies man. He’s a charmer.”
After the superstar left, Catfé staff played some of her music for the cats and said they “seemed amenable to it.”
All of the cats at Catfé are adoptable through the BC SPCA’s Drive for Lives program, which transports animals to the Lower Mainland from rural areas with lower adoption rates.
It has adopted out 149 cats since opening its doors last December.
