The man who police say sexually assaulted a 6-year-old girl in Surrey earlier this month has been linked through DNA to two other sexual assault cases involving children, RCMP officials said Friday.

On July 3, the girl was walking home with her 12-year-old brother and his 15-year-old friend in the area of 139th Street and 62nd Avenue in Surrey when a man confronted them and ordered them into a wooded area where the assault occurred.

Officials said Friday that the man's DNA has now been linked to a sexual assault case involving two 14-year-old girls in Delta in 2007 and the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl in Vancouver in 1995.

On June 30, just days before the Surrey incident, Delta police issued a press release asking for the public's help in solving the 2007 case, which they say had gone "cold."

In each case, the suspect had a knife or threatened to use one, authorities said.

The suspect is described as being possibly Hispanic, Asian or South Asian, in his late 20s or early 30s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, with dark eyes and short black hair.

The Surrey victim's father told CTV B.C. Friday he wasn't surprised to hear the suspect has committed other crimes.

"Who knows how many people he actually did this to. It's time for this guy to get caught," he said.

The Surrey victim's mother said earlier this month that her daughter was very upset.

"She spurts out now and again little bits to me - she's scared," she said. "I want to get my kid through this."
