Surrey RCMP have broken up a "grow-rip," what they describe as a suspicious raid on an illegal marijuana grow operation as it was in progress. Seven people were arrested and police say they uncovered a grow-op with thousands of plants on a South Surrey farm.

Members of the detachment's drug squad, or "Green Team", had two five-acre properties already under surveillance at the 3800 block of 176th St. on Wednesday afternoon, when a vehicle pulled into one location for a robbery attempt.

Four suspects from the vehicle and three other people from a home on the property were arrested.

In checking the property to ensure there were no other victims or suspects police found a warehouse roughly 30 ft. by 60 ft. which contained 3,000 to 4,000 cannabis plants.

Police have secured the scene and are getting a search warrant to investigate the property further.
