Police have confirmed the human remains found in a wooded area of Prince George Wednesday do not belong to an alleged victim of accused serial killer Cody Legebokoff.

The discovery sparked a flurry of speculation, turning up just weeks after Mounties announced a renewed effort to locate the body of Natasha Lynn Montgomery, a 23-year-old believed to have been murdered but whose remains were never found.

But the body discovered this week in the area of Foothills Boulevard and 5th Avenue is a 29-year-old male, Mounties said Thursday. His next of kin has been notified, but his name will not be released.

An autopsy has determined that the death was not suspicious.

Legebokoff, who grew up in the small nearby community of Fort St. James, was arrested in November 2010, but has yet to stand trial. He has been charged in the murders of four women, including Montgomery.

On March 27, as the weather began to clear, Mounties asked the public to help finally locate her body.

"The snow has melted so the North District RCMP are investigating a number of outstanding files where there's individuals still missing," Const. Lesley Smith said. "We're asking those outdoor enthusiasts who go hiking or ATVing to be aware of their area."

The other three of Legebokoff's alleged victims were found in wooded areas between Prince George, Vanderhoof and Fort St. James.
