Homicide investigators are combing through missing persons reports in hopes of finding new leads to identify charred remains found in Surrey, B.C., this weekend.
The remains were discovered in a ravine near 138 Street and 93A Avenue Saturday afternoon by an adult father and daughter out for a walk.
Cpl. Dale Carr of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team described the scene as "pretty horrific."
An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday after officers at the scene were unable to determine the deceased's cause of death or gender.
Sgt. Peter Thiessen said there's nothing to indicate the remains belong to someone who has been reported missing, but officers are exploring every possibility.
Police are hoping to speak with anyone that uses the trail system around the area, especially during the 48 hours before the grim discovery.
Teams of investigators went door-to-door this weekend canvassing local residents for information.
Investigators are focusing their efforts on a green space that has a trail running between tall bushes underneath Hydro lines.
The area has been in the news before. In November 2008, a human skull was found in the same area. A local man was eventually arrested and charged with murder.
