Previous story:

Vancouver police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in a busy mall parking lot Sunday afternoon.

Shortly after 2 p.m., officers received numerous calls about multiple shots fired in the parking lot on W. King Edward Avenue near Oak Street.

Upon arriving, police found a young man in the passenger’s seat of a white Toyota Camry, already dead.

Officers say the attack appears to be targeted.

The area was busy with shoppers at the time, and police say several witnesses have been taken by bus to a VPD building to be interviewed. Many people were very shaken by the incident.

It’s disturbing to see this kind of violence in a populated neighbourhood, said Const. Brian Montague.

“It’s unacceptable,” he said. “It’s unfortunate that we have individuals out there that clearly have no regard for other people, that they’re willing to fire a gun in a very crowded, populated area.”

No one else was injured in the shooting, and no stray bullets appeared to hit any other cars or shops.

The identity of the victim has not yet been confirmed, and no arrests have been made. Police are speaking with the driver of the Camry.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the VPD Major Crime Section or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

This is Vancouver's 13th homicide of the year.
