Police in Kamloops, B.C. are investigating reports that a teenage lacrosse player stomped on the head of another athlete during a game this weekend, possibly breaking a neck vertebrae.

RCMP Sgt. Grant Learned told CTV News that a 15-year-old Kamloops player was sent to hospital on Sunday around noon for treatment of a neck injury earned during a game against a team from Kelowna.

Police were told the injured boy, "was cross-checked by a player from a visiting team, knocked to the ground, and at one point after the play was stopped the visiting player had stopped and stomped on the head of the player," Learned said.

He added that he is not aware of the boy's current condition.

The injured player's parents called police to make a complaint, and now RCMP are asking anyone who took pictures or video during the midget-level game at Memorial Arena to come forward to help investigators.

Learned said police are trying to determine if the hit warrants charges or if it is a matter that can be handled by the lacrosse league.
