A teenager police say repeatedly spit on officers' faces during a protest in which store windows were smashed and cars vandalized Feb. 12 has been criminally charged.

Police arrested Dylan Roger Thomas Harvey just before midnight Wednesday in the 800-block of Granville Street. Two VPD members said they recognized the 19-year-old from a demonstration in the city's downtown core the night the 2010 Games opened.

The officers, who were in the area of Robson and Beatty streets during the demonstration, had seen the man allegedly assault police officers by repeatedly spitting in their faces, a VPD spokesperson wrote in a press release issued Thursday.

Harvey is charged with three counts of assaulting a peace officer. He is due to appear in court March 5.

There have been a total of 12 arrests stemming from anti-Olympic and anarchist protests on Feb. 12 and 13.

They include six people who have been charged with disturbing the peace, assault, assault on an officer and mischief, police said.

More charges may be forthcoming, police said.
