A man in a balaclava shot one person to death and wounded two others, including a 15-year-old boy, in what police believe was a gang-related incident in Surrey, B.C. Saturday night.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is probing the shooting, which happened at around 8:20 p.m. near King George Blvd. and 100th Avenue.
Sgt. Jennifer Pound says the suspect approached three men who were standing near a black Acura TL and opened fire.
Ambulance paramedics took one victim to Royal Columbian Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Stephen Leone. His next of kin has been notified.
The other two victims delivered themselves to Surrey Memorial Hospital, where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries and released. Police maintained a presence at the hospital throughout the night.
Pound said the investigation is still in the early stages, but it appears to be targeted and gang-related.
"It does appear… associated with the Dhak group," she said. "We are looking to confirm details such as that."
In September, police issued a rare public warning that friends and family members of Dhak and Duhre gang members could be in danger. The news came just weeks after the bloody shooting death of Red Scorpions gangster Jonathon Bacon.
Investigators aren't saying if Saturday night's shooting could be connected.
