Mounties have yet to reveal how a murdered 15-year-old girl from Fraser Lake, B.C., died, but say her body was sent to the United States to be examined by a specialist.
Loren Donn Leslie was found lying in the snow at the side of an abandoned logging road north of Vanderhoof on Nov. 27. Just days later, Cody Alan Legebokoff, 20, was charged with first-degree murder.
Investigators have so far been tight-lipped about the circumstances surrounding Leslie's death, including the cause.
The results of an autopsy performed at the Kamloops Royal Inlands Hospital Wednesday have not been released, but Mounties say Leslie's body was later sent to a specialist in Pennsylvania.
"We are unable to provide details at this time as to the nature of this particular portion of the post mortem examination, but can state that it was a necessary and important step to take," Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said in a release.
"We want to ensure that we are very thorough and do our best by Loren and her family."
Last week, Leslie's father told CTV News his daughter was acquainted with her accused killer, but said he was unclear about how.
Mounties stopped Legebokoff on suspicion of poaching while he was driving his pickup truck out of a snow-covered road. Officers searched the area for evidence, but found Leslie's body instead.
The RCMP North District Major Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at Legebokoff's Prince George home on Dec. 1. Moskaluk said his pickup truck is still in police custody being examined.
