Jan. 22 update: Most outages restored, but windstorm leaves wake of fallen trees

VANCOUVER - Thousands of customers are without power along B.C.'s South Coast following a wind storm that battered the region.

BC Hydro says crews are working to restore electricity to the 65,000 customers that woke up to outages Sunday.

High winds downed trees, causing damage to poles and wires across the Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley and Vancouver Island.

Environment Canada ended its wind warning Sunday afternoon as cleanup of the debris continued.

DriveBC says parts of Highway 101 near Powell River are closed because of downed trees and power lines on the road.

BC Ferries says a number of sailings are cancelled or behind schedule because of the windy conditions, and travellers are advised to check online for the latest information.
