A Surrey high school was locked down briefly Thursday afternoon after a student altercation in a shop class ended with a teen boy being stabbed in the back.

Police say a male student at Princess Margaret Secondary on 72nd Ave. was rushed to hospital with multiple stab wounds shortly after 2 p.m. He was discharged a short time later and is recovering at home.

Video taken at the scene shows the male student conscious while being taken to ambulance by stretcher.

The other student fled on foot, but was taken into custody several hours later.

RCMP say the knife has been retrieved.

The Surrey School District told CTV News classes will be held Friday as usual, but counselling will be made available to teachers and students.

Both of the students are in Grade 12.
