Squamish RCMP says the search for missing Bowen Island teenager Jodi Henrickson will cease pending further information.

Henrickson was last seen leaving a house party on Bowen Island 12 days ago, on June 20. Family and friends of the 17-year-old are desperate for a breakthrough in the case.

Volunteer searchers spent Canada Day combing Bowen Island, near Horshoe Bay, and a police helicopter was used to map trails. But Cpl. Dave Ritchie says the targeted search areas have been exhausted.

"It's not like we can search the island, we have to focus on areas and places that will garner clues and evidence for us," he said.

But Ritchie says the search will continue as investigators gather tips, which may depend on members of the public coming forward.

"Today we're reviewing tips and evidence and interviewing people. If we identify an area to search, then we will."

Meanwhile, Henrickson's family and friends are organizing a rally on Friday night at 5:00 p.m. at the Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal.

The event, which will fall on the two-week anniversary of Henrickson's disappearance, will also be used to collect donations that will be offered as a reward for information about her whereabouts.

"We'll show Jodi and anyone who has information about her whereabouts, our love and support," the event invitation reads.

Sightings and tips have been submitted to the RCMP from as far as Calgary, but Ritchie says they have not been able to validate any of them yet.

"She's your typical 17-year-old girl, so there are quite a few people resembling her," he said.

The night of Henrickson's disappearance

Police confirm that Henrickson and her ex-boyfriend were in contact on the island the night she disappeared. They also say the ex-boyfriend came to their attention in April.

"I can confirm Jodi did contact RCMP on April 8th and laid an assault complaint. As a result, the ex-boyfriend was charged and appeared in court June 5th and pled guilty. He was given a term of 18 months and that term included a no contact order with Jodi,'' said Ritchie.

Yesterday Gavin Arnott's mother Lynne Fedorik released a statement to several media outlets.

"Gavin Arnott is not a suspect in any crime related to Jody Henrickson, and she never sought a court order to stop him from seeing her. Gavin is a good, gentle person who has never been convicted of assault or of any other crime."

Investigators believe Jodi Henrickson is still on the island and are treating this as a missing person case. But having heard nothing from Henrickson, her family is desperate for news of her whereabouts.
